Green seminars in Latvia by Linda Jakobi, GCP at the LV01 NA

2 green seminars on Environment and Climate change

On 3 and 4 December 2025, Linda organised two Green Seminars – one for Agency colleagues and one for Erasmus+ beneficiaries. Both seminars were dedicated to the Erasmus+ horizontal priority “Environment and the fight against climate change”.

During the morning sessions, participants had the opportunity to listen to outstanding expert presentations on several key themes.

  • A weather news editor from Latvian Television presented an overview of climate change in Latvia over a 100-year period, based on nationally available data covering this time span for the first time.
  • Environmental expert Artūrs Jansons spoke about the threats that climate change and human activities pose to biodiversity
  • Gunta Kalvāne, Lead Researcher at the University of Latvia, addressed climate emotions – how to better understand ourselves and others, how to work with these emotions, and how to talk about climate change in education.

In the second part of the programme, participants took part in a Climate Fresk workshop with Linda and Līga Stokmane-Blaua and Staņislavs Babins.
They had the chance to become facilitator thanks the training during the TCA Green facilitation in September 2025

The workshop turned into a powerful co-creation experience, where participants worked in teams to explore the cause-and-effect relationships of climate change and arrived at deep, often emotional insights.

The workshop was carefully prepared in advance with a shared structure and content – starting with a Mentimeter survey as an icebreaker, which helped open up the group. Līga also prepared a presentation introducing the Climate Fresk methodology and key climate data.
One particularly striking explanation was the comparison of CO₂ to a coat – while a person can take off a coat when it becomes too warm, the planet unfortunately does not have that option.

At the end of the workshop, participants joined a creative session, developing logos and slogans, followed by an emotions circle and action ideas. The closing segment provided an overview of climate actions already taking place at the European Union and other levels, helping participants see hope and recognise existing solutions.

The seminars concluded in a warm and unified atmosphere, demonstrating how powerful shared learning and participation can be. As a closing wish for all of us, one participant group captured the spirit of the seminar in their slogan:

“Let’s live in a way that we can still touch the butterfly.” 🦋

Linda’s tips :

“For future seminars, I am considering starting the day with a Climate Fresk workshop, as it would help build a shared understanding from the very beginning and significantly increase the quality of participants’ interest, engagement, and participation in the expert presentations that follow.
